Healthy Bread pakoda

 

 Bread pakoda or pakora is popular Indian street food and snacks, perfect for serving in the evening with tea in the cold weather or rainy season. Like bhajji ( Pakoda) it is also a fried snack whose crunchy crust is made of gram flour. There are two ways to make bread pakoda at home;

1 – With mashed potato stuffing,

2 -Without potato stuffing.

In this bread pakora recipe, the method of making bread pakoda with potato spice stuffing is elaborated with step by step photo. The potato spice stuffing between two bread slices is first cut into a triangular shape. Later they are dipped in gram flour batter and fried until it gets golden brown colour and crisp in oil for frying method. For the roasting method instead of frying we have to roast is it with a little bit of oil. If you want to make bread pakoda without stuffing, then submerge all the bread slices directly in gram flour solution and fry them.

In today’s bread Pakoda recipe we are using two ways of making Bread Pakoda.

1) Fried bread Pakoda.

2) Healthy Roasted bread Pakoda (for those who are health conscious).

So let’s start the recipe.

Ingredients:

8 nos. – Bread slices
3 nos. – Potatoes (medium size boiled)
1 no. – Green chilli (finely chopped)
1 tablespoon – Coriander leaves (finely chopped)
½ tablespoon – Coriander powder
1 teaspoon – Red chili powder
½ teaspoon – Cumin seeds (Jeera)
¼ teaspoon – Garam masala
½ teaspoon – Turmeric powder
¼ teaspoon – Mango powder (Amchur powder)
¼ teaspoon – Salt
2 teaspoon – Tomato Ketchup

Ingredients for batter:

1 cup – Gram flour (Besan)
2 tablespoon – Rice flour
¼ teaspoon – Baking soda
½ teaspoon – Red chilli powder
¼ teaspoon – Carom seeds (Ajwain)
¼ teaspoon -Turmeric powder
1 tablespoon –  Chopped Coriander leaves
1 teaspoon – Chopped curry leaves (Kadi Patta)
¼ teaspoon – Salt (as per taste)

 

Method for preparing Bread Pakoda with step by step photos:

Instructions for making potatoes Stuffing:

1 – First Mash or grate boiled potatoes and pour into a bowl.

2 – Add 1 finely chopped green chilli, 2 tablespoons finely chopped green coriander, 1 tsp red chilli powder, ½ tsp coriander powder, ½ tsp turmeric powder, ½ tsp cumin seeds, ¼ tsp mango powder( Amchur powder), ¼ tsp of garam masala powder and salt.

3 – Mix them well. Taste it for spice and add more if needed. Spices are ready for the stuffing.

How to make batter?

1 – In a bowl, take 1 cup gram flour, 2 tablespoon rice flour, a pinch of baking soda, ½ tsp red chili powder, ¼ teaspoon Ajwain, 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves, ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon chopped curry leaves, and salt.

2 – To make the batter, add water in equal quantity as gram flour. It’s better to measure water with the same bowl that used for measuring gram flour. Your batter will be perfect using this tip.

Just remember one thing, The batter should not be too thick or too thin. It should be like Bhajji / Pakoda batter.

 

How to make raw bread pakoda?

1 – Take two slices of bread and first spread tomato ketchup on both slices.

2 – Then start filling stuffing from the center.

3 – Spread the stuffing from the center towards the edge, don’t use much stuffing.

4 – Place both the slices on each other facing their stuffed sides other and press it lightly.

Same way prepare all raw pakodas.

How to make fried bread pakoda?

 

1 – Heat oil in a deep frying pan for frying pakodas on medium heat. To check whether the oil is sufficiently hot, add a small drop of the solution to the oil and if it comes to the top surface in the oil without changing the color, the oil is medium hot and the pakodas are ready to fry. If it does not come on the top surface then the oil is not sufficiently hot. If it immediately comes to the surface and turns brown then the oil is hot.

 

2 – Now dip raw bread pakoda in the batter, so that the slurry will be uniform on it.

3 – Raise it gently with a tong or your hand and carefully put it in medium hot oil.

4 – Fry it till the bottom surface becomes lightly golden. It will take about 1-2 minutes.

6 – Remove it from the oil and place it on a paper napkin and then on a plate.

Similarly, the remaining pakodas also fry in oil and, Serve hot.

 

How to make Healthy roasted bread pakoda?

 

1 – Do all the above steps same up to dipping raw pakodas in the batter.

2 – Now for roasting bread pakoda take a pan, spread a little bit of oil on it, and heat it on medium flame, after that place gently pakoda on it and allow to cook for 2 minutes on medium flame.

3 – Roast the upper and lower surfaces until crisp and lightly golden. Roast it on both sides until crisp and lightly golden on all sides.

4 – Roast remaining sides by holding pakoda with tong like shown in the photo below.

5 – When all sides of the pakoda turn golden brown, then remove it from the pan.

6 – Cut each pakoda into two triangular pieces and your Roasted bread pakoda is ready.

Similarly, the remaining pakoda’s are also roast and serve hot with tomato ketchup and tea in the evening breakfast. It can also be served at kid’s parties with green chilli sauce and tomato ketchup.

 

Tips for preparing Bread Pakoda:-

 

1 – To make it even more delicious, add a paste of 2 garlic cloves in the stuffing.

2 – Spread 1-2 tsp of green chutney or garlic chutney evenly before applying potato masala to the inside of the bread slices. It will taste good.

3 – To make sizzling, add boiled peas or cottage cheese or lightly roasted onion with potatoes. Add salt to it while the potatoes are boiling.

4 – The batter Should not be thick or thin. If it is too thick, then add some water to make it thinner. If it is too thin then add a little gram flour to it to make it thick and mix well.

5 – After dipping in the batter, immediately fry or roast the pakoda in oil. After dipping in the batter or keeping it in the solution, the bread will become soft and difficult to fry or roast.

6 – Roasted bread pakoda is the best and healthy option as it consumes less oil.
